The sloping shores of Lake Ellen provide the natural protection for the Chisago grapes in our Deer Garden vineyard, enabling them to ripen late into the season. The result is a pleasingly sweet wine with intense flavors of cherry and plum.
The grape for this wine was developed by Kevin and Kyle Peterson, Winehaven's father and son winemaking team. They named the grape "Chisago" after the scenic area where it originated. WineHaven has been awarded the U.S. Plant Patent 19,246 for the Chisago grape, characterized by its unique combination of outstanding wine quality, vigor and winter hardiness.
